Multi-Pole Feedthrough

Hermetic connectors, also known as feedthrough connectors, are used when inserting multi-core electrical wires into vacuum or pressure-sensitive containers.

Globetech hermetic connectors have two sealing methods:

  • Ceramic insulation (with silver brazing encapsulation)
  • Glass insulation and sealing

Both maintain stable quality even at high temperatures and high-pressure differentials. They also allow for easy attaching and detaching of multiple poles using the MIL-C-5015 standard plug on the atmospheric side, and the special Globetech designed container side plug developed on the container side. When attaching the connector to a customer’s equipment, a universal standard flange is used.

Based on your requirements, we can customize hermetic connectors with a wide range of specifications, including thermocouple signals and large currents for heater power supplies. Our customers use our hermetic connectors in equipment for manufacturing semiconductors and flat panel displays.

Hermetic Connectors Case Studies

A hermetic connector is a semi-standard product made by welding an insert position prepared in advance and a standard flange. Depending on the customer’s request, it is possible to customize items such as the insert position and flange.

Case Study 1

Problem

A cable was run through a vacuum container and sealed using an adhesive. However, when the vacuum level was raised, leaks occurred, and data could not be collected.

Solution

Globetech hermetic connectors have a very high degree of airtightness, which results in less leakage. Thus, they are widely used in semiconductor manufacturing and space experiment chambers and have set several ultra-high vacuum usage records.

Case Study 2

Problem

A cable broke. Since it connected the vacuum interior and exterior, all the equipment had to be replaced. It was a laborious and costly repair.

Solution

Globetech’s hermetic connector has a three-part structure consisting of the airtight connector body, atmosphere side plug, and container side plug, allowing partial replacement and improved maintainability.

Case Study 3

Problem

The performance of other hermetic connectors was poor. The seals broke and leaked when exposed to high temperatures.

Solution

Globetech’s insulation methods, “Ceramic Insulation Method,” and “Glass Insulation Method,” are resistant to large temperature and high-pressure differences, so they do not leak.

Hermetic Connectors With Flanges

Hermetic connectors with flanges are suitable for the following conditions:

    • Port welded to the vacuum chamber
    • Screwing to the bulkhead of the container
    • Hermetic connectors attached to the port with a clamp

By attaching a flange, the process of removing the connector for maintenance is much smoother. Although vacuum flanges include standard products such as ICF, KF(NW), and ISO, Globetech can create standard flanges for pressurization and original shape flanges.

Double Receptacle Hermetic Connectors 

When the container side uses a multi-pole plug for connection, it is necessary to retain the socket and minimize incorrect insertion. Therefore, the hermetic connector has a "double receptacle type" with a "male thread" on the container side. It is possible to use the MS connector for air use or a custom made container side using material such as stainless steel when attempting to connect with the container side.

If you require a cable to be soldered to the pins of a hermetic connector, we can do it using a connector with a solder cup shape on the container side. The airside is connected using a standard MS connector.

Thermocouple Hermetic Connectors

Globetech also produces current-carrying pins using thermocouple materials. These are compatible with hermetic thermocouple connectors, atmosphere-side plugs, and container side plugs. We can also incorporate Type K, Type T, and Type E materials that conform to ANSI (American National Standards Institute) specifications.
